This Month At The Everett Theatre: James and the Giant Peach
By Brad Willis
“My dear young fellow, there are a whole lot of things in this world of ours you haven't started wondering about yet.”
A whole lot of things…like say a young boy speaking to an Old-Green-Grasshopper; and then the boy making friends with other life-sized talking, argumentative and emotional creatures such as a Ladybug, a Centipede, a Spider, a Glow-worm, an Earthworm, and a Silkworm. And this entire world occurs within…what else? A GIANT PEACH!
And where does all this occur?
Welcome to the Everett Theatre’s Playground Series production of “James and The Giant Peach”: The story of a young orphan boy who, after his parents are tragically eaten, is forced to live with his less than kind and even abusive aunts until one day he finds himself in possession of a bit of magic. Magic that results in a peach growing as large as a house, and James traveling inside the peach to meet a myriad of colorful, intriguing, and chatty creatures. From there the adventure continues with a voyage across the Atlantic—an exciting and perilous journey that James begins to again find some of what he lost with his parents: friendships, trust, self-confidence and hope. A voyage that winds up with the peach atop the Empire State Building!
The audience will find out what James already knows – “'Something peculiar is about to happen at any moment.” And viewers will soon realize that this is a story that both entertains and encourages. It’s tragedy and comedy… heroes and villains… It’s the hardships faced by young James all entwined with hope, fear, joy, abandonment, and friendship. You’ll feel for James as he works to overcome the difficulties of the harsh, young life he finds himself in; and you’ll cheer with him as he finds a new hope and a new joy, new friendships, and ultimately a new purpose in life—all by climbing inside a GIANT PEACH!.
So bring the kids and come see this wonderful children’s production:“James and The Giant Peach”!
