Station History
AM 1530 WCTR originally went
on the air in 1962 and it has faithfully been serving its
local communities ever since. The original owner of the
station obtained the license for what was then a 250 watt
daytime radio station.
WCTR later received permission
from the FCC to increase it's broadcast power to 1,000 watts.
The studio, transmitter and 187-foot tower are located on
at 231 Flatland Road in Chestertown, an area known as "Signal
Hill", one of the highest areas in Kent or Queen Anne's
county.
The present licensee of WCTR
is WCTR Broadcasting, LLC, a company that is owned by Dick
Gelfman, familiar to many in the listening area from is
many years in Baltimore television. The station continues
to operate as a truly local, community-oriented broadcaster,
providing local news, local weather, local sports, local
information, local talk, and much, much more.
